Shape Talks

Debates that change your mind

Shape Talk is a series of moderated debates where young people argue about the questions that shape their lives: technology, money, work, community, the future. Every talk has a moderator and a prepared set of statements and questions, so the evening has structure without being stiff.

You don’t need to be an expert in anything. Come to argue, or come to listen. Both are fine.

01 — The format

How a talk works

  1. 01

    Two sides of the room

For every statement one half of the room argues for it and the other against.

  2. 02

    One minute, one point

Speakers alternate: for, against, for, against. Write your name on a card and raise it when you want in. A minute is enough.

  3. 03

    Polls and the 1-2-4-All close

Live polls show where the room stands before and after. Some talks end with a minute alone, two in pairs, four in a group of four, then everyone together.

What we keep coming back to

Every talk revolves around one central question. Recent talks asked whether the future looks utopian or dystopian, whether impact starts at your doorstep or on the global stage, and whether being your own boss is freedom or a different kind of cage.
